Breastfeeding Class

| Breastfeeding Class FAQ |
Many of us have the idea that breastfeeding is a very straightforward process, and that when baby comes out we will just "pop" the baby on to feed. While breastfeeding is very normal and many women will in fact have that experience, some women find that inadequate information, lack of support in the immediate postpartum, or separation of mother and baby postpartum, means that our normal ability to breastfeed doesn't always get off to a good start. This can be prevented.

Breastfeeding Class
Our class covers in depth the needs and how-to's for the breastfeeding mother and baby immediately following birth and during the first six weeks. Breastfeeding is a learned relationship between mother and baby which only improves with practice-since we can't practice before the baby comes this class will provide a valuable starting point. Partners attend as two of you can remember more than one in the immediate days postpartum. There is no personal exposure in the class.

In this class, couples will learn:
• benefits, short and long term, of breastfeeding for mom and baby
• proper latch-on and positioning
• preventing and identifying common problems
• how to tell if the baby is getting enough milk
• physiology of the nursing breast
• normal nursing baby behavior and cues
• pumping, storing, partner feeding

Fees: $75 per couple, or can be taken as part of our Childbirth and Parenting Package for the discounted price of $55 per couple. At registration, a deposit of $55 is required. If you are taking the package, you are then paid in full. If not, you will have a balance of $20 due 48 hours before the class.
