Realbirth’s excellent education programs support you in the early years of parenting. We are committed to serving you during this transition. The first three years with your new baby are a time period of rapid growth and adjustment for the whole family. Your baby is constantly developing as the whole family moves through the transition. Having resources to understand the rapid growth and change can make the process much smoother, more fun and less overwhelming. We are New York City’s most experienced and well trained center for educating new parents.
This class is a realistic, compassionate session to help get families on track with sleep. We teach strategies that balance a baby's developmental needs with the need for sanity and sleep of the parents. Individual approaches are planned given your babies age, eating and nursing habits; household sleep environment and adult sleep needs.
Fee: $65 includes lunch This one time workshop can be taken when you are pregnant, in the early months before you return to work or in the months after you have already gone back to work.
Modern New York moms can learn important strategies for that point when you decide to return to the workplace. Meet like-minded women as you learn in a collaborative, supportive environment.
Topics covered include: Balancing work and family Finding and keeping childcare Negotiating new roles at work and at home How to become more efficient The crucial role of self care Fee: $65; babies welcome.
In parenting, instinct is good, but with CPR, knowledge is better! During this supportive, fun and friendly class, you will learn techniques to help your infant or child in a breathing or cardiac emergency. In addition, you will learn key safety measures that you can take to avoid accidents. Each attendee will have their own individual mannequin to work on throughout the class.
This class is broken down into two parts that will include the following: Part 1 focuses on the skills you need in the event of a life-threatening situation how to recognize and what to do if your child chokes or needs CPR extensive practice along with the individual attention required to learn CPR properly Part 2 accident prevention crib safety baby-proofing city travel To help you practice at home, you are provided with a book from the American Heart Association. Fees: $85 per person. Pre-registration required. Please note, that CPR is not part of the "Childbirth Prep Package."
The first year of becoming a parent is an exciting, amazing, beautiful, exhausting time. As soon as we get used to our baby behaving one way they move through a milestone and everything changes. We learn quickly that what happens on day one is not what happens on week one or month one. What is the world like for our baby in the first year? How are they integrating the world and what can we do to support their development without overwhelming them and stressing ourselves out. What is the curve for new parenthood in our development. This class picks up with new parents where our great pregnancy Newborn Care class ended. Parents of babies 0-9months learn how to support and cope with their baby’s growth and development, which can be particularly reassuring through the constant change of the first year.
Topics include: Physical developmental milestones Fine motor skills in your baby Speech in the first year Vision development What’s happening in your babies brain You will learn how to support your baby’s healthy physical, intellectual and emotional development while alleviating societal pressure of all the things you “think” you are supposed to be doing to help your baby. Fee: $75 for the couple and $45 for individual. Covers development through first year. Okay to bring your baby. Baby Massage is a way to comfort our children through our hands. Loving touch encourages a connection between parent and child from the first days of life. It can serve as a vehicle for improved communication, both verbal and non-verbal, forming a solid foundation for future relationships. Massage teaches relaxation and supports the release of tension to both the parent and baby.
Infant massage has been shown to: help relieve baby's gas and constipation improve sleep patterns, develop body awareness, encourage social development improve circulation enhances the immune system supports parental confidence This four part series builds your massage skills week by week Appropriate, loving touch at any age, fosters the development of trust and provides a sense of security in growing children. Come learn about techniques and benefits of infant massage in an environment that is relaxing for both parents and baby. The workshop is taught by a licensed massage therapist who is certified as an infant massage instructor. Bring your baby (newborn to pre-crawling, about 6 months or under) and a blanket to wrap baby. Fee: $135 for four weeks/family.
Life in year two changes dramatically. You now have a mobile child who has learned the power of NO and all our tools for the first year need to change. This session discusses parenting tips for the toddler year. Parents will learn the intellectual and emotional development of the toddler. This one time workshop will highlight the four major challenges of raising a toddler.
Topics include many of the challenges we face with a toddler including: discipline boundaries nutrition playgroups & politics sleep getting a bit of your own life back Parents will learn how to hold on to their parenting ideals while dealing with the challenges of raising a toddler. Fee: $65.00
Have lots of questions about vaccines? This informative talk will explain the benefits and parental concerns of vaccines and allow parents to ask questions, discuss and understand public health policy. The lecture format is not designed to convince you one way or another but provide a forum where parents can understand the many factors that play into preventive medicine, vaccine development and use, vaccines and illnesses role in history and health. Developed in conjunction with Tribeca pediatrics and realbirth this is a good resource for new parents.
