For at least 10-20% of women, pregnancy can be accompanied by distressing feelings including sadness, irritability, persistent worry and anxiety, and some level of depression. For the majority of women, these feelings do not tend to go away on their own. In addition to the known risks to the developing fetus, depression and anxiety during pregnancy significantly elevate a woman's risk for postpartum mood and anxiety disorders. Getting help during pregnancy is associated with the mother feeling well more quickly and having a positive impact on the fetus and infant.
Mother to be will receive: · psychoeducation, and counseling · concrete support and recommendations for individual situations · support to alleviate confusion about feelings · small groups provide private yet valuable support · safety and privacy to explore feelings and share of experiences to minimize the sense of isolation Fee: $25 fee; please call for dates and times, 212-367-9006 Prenatal Yoga is a great activity for pregnancy.
